We are currently supporting 46 Christadelphians who have LGBTQ+ children or grandchildren

Our Position

Kindness to LGBTQ+ people is not an endorsement of same-sex relationships. In presenting this report, we have no intention of challenging non-affirming or affirming views. What we are highlighting is an opportunity to reach out to people who need our love and support: "Bear one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ" (Galatians 6:2, NRSV).

Who are you?

We are The Christadelphian LGBTQ+ Parent and Grandparent Support Group Facebook Group, which aims to help parents and grandparents of children who identify as LGBTQ+.

Our team is made up either from parents of LGBTQ+ people (young and old), or those who themselves are queer. We are in-fellowship members of ecclesias who meet under the BASF.

Why a ‘Parent and Grandparent Support Group’?

Because this issue affects some who are Minors in the eyes of the law, there are issues around safeguarding which are difficult to negotiate when seeking to support them. The most helpful thing that we felt we could do therefore was to ‘support the supporters’ , i.e. Parents & Grandparents. 

The understanding and support of one's own family with ANY difficulty faced in life is one of the most significant factors in negotiating it successfully. However,on this particular issue, parents and grandparents are often highly conflicted by their unconditional love for their offspring and their own understanding of scripture and/or the attitude of members of their own ecclesia. We seek to provide a place where they can safely and privately share their experiences with others of our community who are struggling with this, in order that they can in turn provide effective support to the vulnerable.
